Video face redaction: safer settings and review
Visual redaction is a risk-reduction workflow, not just an effect. Choose a conservative cover, inspect every mask, consider non-facial identifiers, and review the actual exported file.
Choose settings by risk
- Prefer mosaic or solid. Soft blur preserves more structure and is usually less suitable for sensitive footage.
- Expand the margin. Cover beyond the face to account for motion and distinctive edges.
- Remove audio when needed. A covered face does not conceal a recognizable voice or spoken name.
- Use one consistent treatment. FaceBlur applies the selected effect to every detected face.
Complete export review checklist
- Watch from the first frame to the last at normal speed.
- Scrub slowly through cuts, entrances, exits, turns, and occlusion.
- Inspect mirrors, windows, screens, photographs, and background people.
- Pause on the smallest and fastest-moving faces.
- Confirm the downloaded file, not only the browser preview.
- Check voice, names, clothing, tattoos, badges, plates, documents, and location clues.
When automatic detection is insufficient
Do not rely on this workflow where a missed frame would create unacceptable harm, where faces are consistently tiny or obscured, or where individual people require different treatment. Use a professional editor with manual masks and frame-level inspection.
